I had lunch last week with an old friend james Kennedy - who had stumbled across this blog and asked me why I write it. Well if anyone else is stumbling here some answers are:
a) because sitting down and forcing myself to look at a new topic and writing about it on a regular basis is a discipline that I need to mentally concentrate. I have ADD generally, so the process is good for me.
b) I want to 'exercise' my spiritual side in the same way I physically exercise, (playing football or running), and mentally exercise (playing games, reading or working). Writing this blog (along with prayer, reading bible and going to church) is one way of keeping my faith exercised and not fat and clogged.
c) my faith is a big part of my life and what makes me tick and motivates me and so it's worth spending some time on and talking seriously. Bit like personal relationships and work - at times they all come easy but you can't take them for granted, you have to work at it.
d) I hope to learn something - I'm not a blind believer unfortunately, nor a clinical rationalist. My faith is constantly out partying with my reason - sometimes they're best of buddies other times they're kicking each other senseless. Problem is I can't just live with one of them without the other, and education generally helps them get on.
e) I sometimes enjoy it
I'm not a proselitizer, too English in up-bringing for that - but on the other hand I do believe I should not hide my faith so while I essentially do this for myself - I do keep it public so if you've stumbled across this - I'm not trying to convert you, but not hiding what I believe is important either.
